G-Shock 6900 – The Classic Collection
The g-shock 6900 is a particular type of group of g-shock watches. They are part of the classic g-shock collection and are so fashionably popular that Casio have brought out a range of these watches all with slightly different characteristics.
The number 6900 actually signifies the model of the g-shock but in Casio’s case, it refers more to the casing of the watch. So a watch can have the same casing but have individual features and colors.
The classic style of the g-shock 6900 on first appearance has got to be the shape. These are round dial watches yet the face looks more like the shape of a setting sun just dipping below the horizon. In other words, the shape starts off round like a circle but has the bottom part cut off to make the base flat.
Below this flat base is the bold ‘G’ button. When you press the ‘G’ the face is lit up with a backlight. This gives you easy access to the light feature, allowing you to see the time in dark circumstances. This button can be the same or sometimes boldly contrasting to the band or face color.
The ‘G’ always stands out giving you the signature look of the g-shock 6900. If you miss this, which you can’t, Casio have even spelled it out for you… literally with the ‘G-SHOCK’ name boldly imprinted in capitals above the watch face.
The dial on these watches have 4 press buttons, 2 on each side and evenly spaced for perfect symmetry. These buttons control the adjust, mode, split-reset and start-stop functions of the watch.
The shape of the watch band itself is designed to give the most protective covering to the inner watch workings and it’s this chunky resin that helps make g-shock watches shock resistant.
The band actually absorbs the impact of any shocks or vibrations that the watch comes into contact with, making it super durable and tough.
There are the standard 3 circles which are on the face of most 6900s. They are like eyes on the watch which is why the g-shock 6900s are sometimes referred to as the ‘three eyed monsters’. These are really just for show.
They do count out the seconds to the minute but it’s just a visual display treat, not really useful for much unless you want to count along.
These watches all have the famous resin band that comes in a range of colors. That’s what most stands out about the differences between individual g-shock 6900’s. The white ones alone have a range of styles and features. Here are 5 of the most popular white g-shock 6900’s:
DW6900CS-7: This is a bright happy looking g-shock watch with the sky-blue and aqua-blue colors of the face and a green/blue backlight. Usher is a proud owner of one of these.
GW6900A-7: This is an excellent sexy every day street watch that has the latest atomic timekeeping technology and a subtle purple ‘g-shock’ and G button which gives it a pop of color.
GLX6900-7: A rare 6900 as it is not a three eyed monster, this instead incorporates a splash of color on the white casing and has the extra features of a tide graph, moon phase data and is resistant to low temperatures.
DW6900NB-7: This of course is the currently extremely popular Eminem watch. This watch has a slick black face, mirror dial, blue backlight and looks freakin’ cool.
GW6900F-7: Another in the atomic timekeeping series, this bold beauty has a plum accent and matching reverse LCD and it just happens to be solar powered. How very EF.
